"The Wind Connection"March 22, 6-7:30 p.m.Farmers Gastropub, 431 S. Jefferson, Springfield "The Wind Connection" is the theme of our third Energy Cafe. Wind energy is one of the most promising forms of renewable energy in the U.S. In 2008, wind energy additions made up 42% of all newly installed energy production capacity in the U.S. and small wind installations grew by 78%. The market is developing quickly, and regional differences play heavily into the cost-effectiveness and suitability of small- and large-scale wind installations. Dan Boyt, wind energy instructor at Crowder College's Missouri Alternative and Renewable Energy Technology Center, Neosho, will be our speaker. He will focus on small wind installations, discussing the technologies, what works and what doesn't, as well as incentives, rebates and policies and the economics of small wind in Missouri. The utility scale wind market is growing quickly in Missouri, with nearly 150 megawatts added in 2009. Dan will briefly look at the market potential in the U.S. and Missouri and our region and investigate the steps being taken by other countries to bring wind capacity online. Jim Gardner, ONE's Energy Tech Talk blogger, will moderate the discussion. Space is limited so reserve a seat at 417-581-0745 or

We'll take a break June through October to prepare for our annual conference Oct. 7-8,, then pick up again next November. Stay tuned for topics and speakers, but we'll likely touch on wind, biomass and energy efficiency in the next three Cafes. April 26 May 24 |
